My parents and I shipped aboard the old Argentina from NY to Montevideo in June of 1957. Sid Spector was the band leader by then; the cruise director's name I cannot recall, but he'd been an assistant director on TV's "Studio One," and did a reasonably good rendition of "I Love Paris." That was, in fact, his only rendition. Other entertainment included a dance team, perhaps the legendary Inez and Rodolfo? I hung with several other 14-year-olds, both sons of MooreMac execs, hence plugged in to valuable knowledge like how to get cigarettes and Carlsburg. An experience like that, followed by three idyllic years in Paraguay, makes most of what I have recently experienced seem beneath the pedestrian. I raise my glass to the memory of the steamships Argentina and Brazil. Until quite recently, their framed menu covers graced the wall of my den, and I've extinguished more than a few panatellas in a "new" Brazil ashtray. I wish that world still existed apart from cherished memory.

I sailed from NY to Brazil in 1954, on the Mooremacdale. I recently found the certificate of the Shellback initiation (crossing the equator). It is dated January 5, 1954, and in excellent condition, considering it's been 54 years. How do I upload a jpeg file to this site?

I sailed aboard the SS Liberte in 1985 or 1986 to Tahiti. It was my first experience with the world, so to speak. I so love my memories of that beautiful ship and am very sad to hear of it's apparent demise. Does anyone have any updates on the Liberte/Brasil? Has anyone rescued her yet again? If anything I will always have my memories of that lovely ship.

Sailed on the Moore-McCape from Durban to Cape Town, South Africa; on to Jacksonville Florida and then to Baltimore, Maryland to go by train to New York and fly to our new home in San Diego, California. That was in 1965. There were only 12 passengers and we were a family of five (Sandy, Ruby, Morag, Ian, and Roddy McDonald. It was the most luxurious trip; our rooms were large and the food incredible. All the crew were great expect for the Captain who had no sense of humor and did not even celebrate our crossing the equator - It was too bad he was such a so and so. The Chief Engineer took us under his wing and made the voyage really great. My parents stayed in contact with him for a long time. Well, that is enough. Just wanted you to know what a great adventure it was. Thanks
