I just finished a cruise with Royal Caribbean and began thinking of my Uncle, Edward S Davis, who at one time was the Staff Captain on the SS Brazil in 1951. By doing some research on Google, I found this website that had pictures of what life was like on the SS Brazil. I was surprised to find my uncle’s picture in a couple of photos. Having experienced a modern cruise I found it interesting to look at cruise pictures of the past. There is quite a difference between the SS Brazil and The Oasis of the Seas. My Uncle died in 2007 but he was able to see most of the changes. There is quite a difference between The Oasis of The Seas and the SS Brazil. During World War II my uncle’s ship was sunk during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. He and other crew members were in a life boat for 13 days before finding land. I’m sure he had a very interesting perspective of surviving a ship sinking to serving on a cruise ship a few years later. If I were a passenger on the Brazil, I know I would be in good hands.

I am tring to find information about the S. S. Mormacsea and its trip that originated at Hollandia, New Guinea on July 22, 1945 and culminating August 8, 1945 at pier 7, San Francisco, Ca. I am also interested in builder information and dates it first sailed. Was it originaly Mermacsea or did it have another name before? Any information will be helpful. Thanks, Jim
